  • Heavy rains likely today...

    . . .Heavy Rain Event Expected Today. . .

Short Term:  It is a warm and breezy morning across South Louisiana.  The skies are cloudy and showers are popping up.  The coverage of rain will become more widespread as the morning goes on.  Temperatures are in the lower 70s.

Showers and thunderstorms will become more numerous this afternoon.  The rains are ahead of a cold front that is moving across the Great Plains.  There is plenty of moisture in place coming from the Gulf of Mexico and the remnants of Tropical Storm Rick from the Pacific.  This will lead to heavy rain with rainfall totals around 1 to 3 inches, and even more in some areas.  Some of the storms today could become strong to severe.

An area of low pressure is forecast to develop over south Texas, and this will be the focus for the severe weather.  The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of Louisiana in a Slight Risk for severe weather.  The main threats would be damaging winds and a few tornadoes.  However, the severe weather should not be widespread.  It will be a warm and humid day with a few peaks of sunshine possible.  Highs will be in the upper 70s.

If you are headed to the Southern vs. Prairie View football game tonight, you better plan on a soggy game.  There will be plenty of rain at kickoff through the end of the game.  Temperatures will be around 70.

Expect periods of rain, heavy at times, all night long.  It will be cooler with lows in the lower 60s.

Friday & the Weekend:  The cold front will move through on Friday morning, and once it does it will put an end to the rain.  We will start the day with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms.  However, by the afternoon, the clouds will decrease and we will see some sunshine.  It will be cooler with highs in the lower 70s.

An area of high pressure will build in on Saturday, and this will make for a gorgeous day!  We will have sunny skies, cooler temperatures, and less humid conditions.  Highs will be in the lower 70s.  It will be clear and chilly on Saturday night with lows in the upper 40s.

The weather should be perfect for the LSU vs. Auburn game.  Kickoff weather will have clear skies with temperatures in the upper 60s.  By the end of the game it will still be clear and cool with temperatures in the upper 50s.  You will want to bring you jacket to the game!

The beautiful weather continues on Sunday with sunny skies.  It will be a little warmer with highs in the mid 70s.  Lows on Sunday night will be in the lower 50s with mostly clear to clear skies.

Tropical Update:  There is a large area of clouds and showers over the Southwest Caribbean.  This is associated with a broad area of low pressure, and it remains poorly organized.  Development , if any, should be slow to occur.  There is a low chance, less than 30%, of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next two days.

There is an upper-level trough extending from Eastern Cuba northeastward through the Southeastern Bahamas into the Atlantic Ocean.  Upper-level winds are expected to remain unfavorable for significant development over the next few days as it drifts westward.  There is just a low chance, less than 30%, of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next two days.

Elsewhere. . .the rest of the tropics are quiet, and tropical cyclone formation is not expected through Friday.
