Short Term: It is another chilly morning across the Capital City area, but it is not as cold as the last few mornings. We have clear skies with temperatures in the lower to mid 40s.
We will have clouds increasing all afternoon from the southwest. These clouds are part of an area of low pressure that has developed off the South Texas Coast. This low will track toward Southeast Louisiana tomorrow, but the clouds and rain will be found ahead of it. This will make the skies partly to
mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 60s.
It will be mostly cloudy tonight and we will have a few showers moving through. It will not be as cold with lows near 50.
Weekend Forecast: It is going to be pretty soggy on Saturday around South Louisiana. The area of low pressure will track toward the southeastern part of the state. We will be north of the low with the rains will be wrapping around it, and that will lead to scattered to numerous showers over Baton Rouge. The heaviest rain should remain along the coast, but a few heavy downpours will be possible. It will be a cooler day thanks to the rain with highs only climbing to around 60.
The showers will gradually taper off on Saturday night, and then we will have mostly cloudy skies. It will still be a mild night with lows near 50.
The low will move off to the northeast of Louisiana on Sunday, and this will take the rain and clouds away. The sky will become partly cloudy, and we will be warmer with highs in the upper 60s.
Football Forecast: If you are headed to Oxford, MS for the LSU vs. Ole Miss game on Saturday, then you better plan for a little rain. Other areas around town may see a little fog. You will still want to grab that warm coat as you head out the door today!
We will have a fantastic afternoon with plenty of sunshine. The area of high pressure that has been sitting over us will be moving toward the east today. That will bring in easterly winds over Louisiana, and these winds will help to warm us up a little. High temperatures will climb into the upper 60s.
The skies will remain clear tonight, but it will not be as cold. However, it will still be chilly with lows falling down to the mid 40s.
Pack The Pod: Head out to the Wal-Mart on College Drive and drop off any gently used coats, or a cash donation to support WBRZ's Pat's Coats For Kids Campaign today. Pat will be there all day starting at 5 AM until 6:30 PM. Please help out with this great cause, especially with the cold weather we have been seeing lately. Remember that there are some kids that do not have a warm coat as they stand at the bus stop!
Friday & The Weekend: We will start Friday off with sunny skies, but it will become partly cloudy by the afternoon. This is in response to the area of high pressure moving further to the east. That will provide us with southeast winds, and they will start to usher in Gulf Moisture. At the same time, an area of low pressure will be developing over Corpus Christi, TX. This low will tap into that moisture, and rain will be developing to the southwest of Louisiana. It will be a mild day with highs in the upper 60s.
Some showers will move into the Capital City starting on Friday night as the low moves toward the Louisiana Coast. Low temperatures will be only falling to near 50.

The area of high pressure will move to the East Coast on Friday, and this will bring back
southerly winds over Louisiana. That is going to allow for some moisture to return as well, and this will make the skies partly cloudy. At the same time, an area of low pressure is forecast to develop along the South Texas Coast, and it will move to the northeast. This will aid in the development of some rain across much of South Texas and Southwest Louisiana. It will be a mild day with highs in the upper 60s. The area of low pressure will move up the Texas coast and into Louisiana on Saturday. This will send scattered to numerous showers over the Baton Rouge area. Heavy rain will be likely, but it is still too early to tell how much we will get. However, the forecast models show around and inch or more at this time. It will be a cool day due to the clouds and rain with highs in the lower 60s.

Tropical Update: A non-tropical area of low pressure is located about 300 miles SSW of Bermuda. It is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Upper-level winds are becoming unfavorable for further development as the low moves to the NNW at 15 mph. This low will become absorbed into a cold front over the next few days. Therefore, there is a low chance, or less than 30%, of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 2 days.
Elsewhere. . .the rest of the tropics are calm, and tropical cyclone formation is not expected through Friday.
Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all the past and current troops for serving our country!
Short Term: It is a quiet morning with clear skies across south Louisiana. Temperatures are falling into the mid 50s with some breezy conditions as you start your day.
The skies will be sunny, and it will be a very pleasant afternoon. An area of high pressure is building into the Southeast U.S. behind
the remnants of Ida. Breezy weather can also be expected today as they squeeze between the high pressure and Ida. This will make for a great day with highs in the mid 70s.

Heavy rains continue there, but the Gulf Coast is only dealing with some breezy conditions due to the large circulation of Ida and an area of high pressure that is building in from the west.
I am still watching the non-tropical area of low pressure centered about 450 miles south of Bermuda. It is producing gale force winds but minimal shower activity. The system is moving to the northwest at 15 mph. Upper-level winds are forecast to become unfavorable for development over the next few days. Therefore, there is just a low chance, or less than 30%, of this system becoming a tropical cyclone over the next 2 days.
Elsewhere. . .the rest of the tropics are quiet, and tropical cyclone formation is not expected through Thursday.
. . .Tropical Storm Warnings Remain Along Louisiana Coast. . .
Ida Update: Tropical Storm Ida is located over Mobile Bay this morning. It is much weaker, and the bulk of the rain is well north of the center of circulation. Winds are sustained at 45 mph, but tropical storm winds extend outward up to 175 miles from the center. It is moving to the northeast at 9 mph, and a turn to the north-northeast with a decrease in forward speed is expected as it continues to move inland. Then Ida will turn to the east later today as it becomes extratropical, or more like just typical area of low pressure.
The only threats Ida poses to Louisiana will be along the coast where Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect. Winds will be pretty high today, but they will decrease as Ida moves inland in Alabama. However, as Ida moves inland in Alabama the warnings will be canceled and that will occur later today.
Also, coastal flooding will still be possible today. A storm surge of around 3 to 6 feet is occurring along the far Southeast Louisiana Coast and Lakes. The waters will slowly recede later today as the storm moves away, and northerly winds push the water back out to sea.
Baton Rouge Short Term: We begin this Tuesday with cloudy skies and some breezy conditions all thanks to Ida. There are also a few sprinkles. Temperatures are pretty mild as they start out in the lower 60s.
The weather will improve this afternoon across south Louisiana! The clouds will gradually decrease, and the skies will become partly cloudy to mostly sunny. It will still be a little breezy with winds out of the north around 15 mph due to the large circulation of Ida. High temperatures will be warm as they climb to the mid 70s.
It will be mostly clear and colder tonight with lows falling down to the lower 50s.
Week Ahead: An area of high pressure builds into the Southeast U.S. on Wednesday, and this will make for some gorgeous weather! Wednesday through Friday will all have sunny skies with low humidity. High temperatures will be in the lower to mid 70s each day. Overnight lows will be chilly as they fall down to the upper 40s.
Warmer and more humid weather returns this weekend as the areas of high pressure move toward the East Coast. This will bring back southerly winds to Louisiana and the Gulf Coast states. The skies will become partly cloudy with highs in the upper 70s both Saturday and Sunday. Low temperatures will be warmer as they only drop to the mid to upper 50s.
Tropical Update: For the latest with Ida, see above. Otherwise, there is an area of showers and thunderstorms located several hundred miles northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands. It is associated with a trough of low pressure, and winds are near gale force. Any development of this system is slow to occur as it moves to the WNW at 10 to 15 mph. There is a low chance, less than 30%, of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.
Elsewhere. . .the rest of the tropics are quiet, and tropical cyclone formation is not expected through Wednesday.
. . .Tropical Storm Warnings along Coast & Lakes. . .
. . .Hurricane Watch along Coast & Lakes. . .
Hurricane Ida: Ida's current location is 235 miles south, southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River. Ida is expected to continue weakening over the next 24 hours. A Tropical Storm Warning and a Hurricane Watch remains in effect for the Gulf Coast from Grande Isle, LA to Pascagoula, MS.
A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 24 hours. A Hurricane Watch means that hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area within 24 hours for this storm.
Ida continues to weaken as it tracks north-northwest at 16 mph through the Gulf of Mexico. A turn to the north with an increase in forward speed is expected during the next 24 hours. This will be followed by a turn toward the northeast on Tuesday where it will make landfall around the Alabama/Florida border according to the latest model information.
Data from the Hurricane Hunters shows that Ida's maximum sustained winds have fallen to 80 mph making it a very weak hurricane.
Keep it tuned to WBRZ Channel 2, Cable Channel 18 and WBRZ.com for the latest on Hurricane Ida.
Short Term: The reason why Ida is missing Louisiana is because an area of low pressure will be moving toward us from the Texas Coast, and a weak cold front moving by to the north of Louisiana. This low will also spread scattered showers over Baton Rouge. We are seeing some showers already this morning with temperatures in the mid 60s.
The showers will become more numerous this afternoon with cloudy skies. Some of the rain could become heavy, and a few rainfall totals could be around 1 to 2 inches. It will also be a little breezy with the low moving toward Louisiana and Hurricane Ida nearby. Winds will be around 10 to 20 mph at times. It will be a mild day with highs around 70.
The skies will remain cloudy tonight with isolated showers. It will be windy as the low and Ida move east of us with wind speeds around 15 to 25 mph. Low temperatures will be in the upper 50s.
Week Ahead: An area of high pressure will build in behind the cold front, and this will make for some very nice weather for the rest of the week! Partly cloudy skies are expected on Tuesday as the low/Ida move to the east, and the skies gradually clear out. Highs will be in the 70s.
Sunny skies are expected Wednesday through Friday with chilly lows in the 40s and mild highs in the 70s. More humid weather returns with southerly winds on Saturday. This will make it partly cloudy on both Saturday and Sunday, but we could see a stray shower on Sunday. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s and lows in the 50s.
Tropical Update: See above for the latest information on Hurricane Ida. Elsewhere. . .the tropics are quiet, and tropical cyclone formation is not expected through Wednesday.
