. . .Warmer Today With Isolated Thunderstorms. . .
Short Term: It is a much calmer morning across the Baton Rouge area compared to yesterday! We are starting this Thursday with mostly clear skies and temperatures in the mid 70s.
We will have hotter temperatures this afternoon, but the rain chances will be lower than they have been. Over the last few days, a stationary front has been stalled just to the north of Baton Rouge. Disturbances have been riding along it, and they have been setting off the rain over us.
Today, the front has weakened, and the disturbances have moved away. However, that does not mean the rain is gone. Our weather will be still be influenced by the weakening front, but also by daytime heating along with a sea breeze. The chance for rain today will be around 20-30%, so many of you will remain dry. At the same time, an upper-level ridge of high pressure will be building toward Louisiana from Texas. This high is what is going to help dry us out, and heat us up. High temperatures will be in the lower to mid 90s. The Heat Index will be around 100 to 105.
Tonight, any storms will dissipate, and we will be left with mostly clear skies. It will be muggy with low temperatures falling down to the mid 70s.
Friday & The Weekend: The upper-level ridge of high pressure will be moving closer to us this weekend, and that will keep us hot
with little rain. Friday will have partly cloudy skies with only a few thunderstorms possible. The chance of rain will be around 20%. High temperatures will be in the mid 90s with the Heat Index around 105.
Saturday and Sunday will both have partly cloudy skies and only stray thunderstorms will be possible. The chance for rain will be 20% or less. It will be quite hot with highs in the mid 90s, and lows in the mid 70s. It will feel more like it is in the lower 100s.
Next Week Outlook: The area of high pressure will remain over our area as we start the new week. This will provide us with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies Monday through Thursday. There will be a chance for the afternoon pop-up thunderstorms each day, and that puts the chance of rain around 20% each day. High temperatures will remain in the mid 90s with lows in the mid 70s.
Tropical Update: All areas of the tropics continue to be calm, and that is great! Therefore, tropical cyclone formation is not expected through Friday.
