. . .A Few More Storms Today, Then Dry This Weekend. . .
Climate Data: Yesterday we only got to a high of 89 degrees at the Baton Rouge Metro Airport. That ended our streak of 29 straight days of 90 degrees or higher temperatures! However, it looks like we will be back in the 90s today. . .
Short Term: We are starting this Thursday with partly to mostly cloudy skies across south Louisiana. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms are popping up, and will continue through the morning as a disturbance moves across Louisiana. The bulk of the storms will be along the coast, but look for some inland as well. Rain could be heavy at times with any storm. Otherwise, it is a muggy morning with temperatures in the mid 70s.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms can be expected again this afternoon. However, the coverage of rain will not be as widespread as it was yesterday. We still have the stationary front sitting just north of Baton Rouge, and a disturbance will ride along it today. This will give us the storms once again, but the chance for rain will only be around 40-50%. The rain could be heavy at times. Where is it not raining, we will have a mix of sun and clouds. It will be a little warmer with highs in the lower 90s.
Only a few showers are in the forecast tonight, otherwise we will have partly cloudy skies. It will be warm and muggy with lows in the mid 70s.
Rest of the Week: An upper-level area of high pressure will build into Louisiana from the west, and this will dry us out. It will also
help to raise the temperatures once again. We will start to see the first signs of the high moving into our area tomorrow. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with only isolated (30%) showers and thunderstorms. It will be hotter with highs in the mid 90s, but will feel like 100 with the high humidity levels.
Friday and the weekend will all have partly cloudy skies as the eastern edge of the ridge of high pressure moves over us. There will still be a stray shower possible (20%), but most of you will remain dry. High temperatures will be in the mid 90s, and lows will be in the mid 70s. The Heat Index will be around 100 to 105 each day.
Tropical Update: We continue to have quiet conditions across the tropical Atlantic, and I am not expecting any tropical cyclones to form during the next 24 to 48 hours.
