. . .Much Needed Rain Returns This Week!. . .

Short Term:  We are starting this new work week with mostly cloudy skies, and a few areas north of Baton Rouge are picking up some rain!  A disturbance is sliding by between Jackson, MS and here.  That spread rain from Woodville to McComb, and also parts of the Felicianas, St. Helena, and Tangipahoa Parishes.  This area of rain will continue to move to the east and dissipate.  However, more showers and storms are forming behind it.  The rest of us are mostly cloudy with temperatures in the upper 70s.

We will pick up some much needed rain today as showers and thunderstorms will become more numerous this afternoon.  This is coming from a cold front that is going stationary along the I-20/I-10 corridors.  Disturbances are riding along it, and these will help to set off more areas of rain.  Some of the storms could become strong to severe with the main threats being gusty winds to 50 mph, small hail, heavy rain, and plenty of lightning.  Otherwise we will have mostly cloudy skies, and it will not be as hot with high temperatures only climbing to around 90 due to the clouds and rain.  A few areas north of town may not even get to the 90s!  How nice does that sound?!?

The scattered showers will continue tonight along with the clouds.  It will be warm and muggy with lows in the mid 70s.

Week Ahead:  The more active weather pattern will continue for much of this week!  The forecast models are showing that we will see the scattered showers and thunderstorms from Tuesday through Saturday.  The best chance for rain will occur tomorrow and Wednesday as that front remains stationary over us.  The disturbances will continue to move along it from west to east, and they will aid in setting off the storms along with daytime heating.  The chance for rain tomorrow will be around 60%, and down to 40% on Wednesday.  High temperatures will still be very warm, but not as hot as the last few weeks with highs Tuesday and Wednesday only around 90.

The front will slowly move to the east and dissipate by Thursday, but that does not mean an end to the rain.  We will have plenty of moisture in place, and with daytime heating, we will return to a more typical summer day with those pop-up afternoon storms.  The chance for rain will be around 30-40% through Saturday.

On Sunday, we will start to transition to a drier pattern as another area of high pressure builds in over our area.  This will lower the chance for rain down to 20%, but it also will raise our high temperatures to the lower to mid 90s.  Therefore, look for partly cloudy skies with only stray showers.

Tropical Update:  All areas of the tropics are quiet, and tropical cyclone formation is not expected through Wednesday.
