. . .Possible Record Heat This Afternoon. . .

Short Term:  It is a mostly clear, and actually comfortable morning across the Capital City area.  The dew points have been lower over the last 24 hours, and that has lowered the humidity - making it more comfortable!  There are some showers showing up on the radar north of Baton Rouge, but since the air mass is pretty dry, most of the rain is not making it to the ground.  A few areas from Woodville to the Felicianas could see a sprinkle or two this morning, but they will not last long.  Otherwise, temperatures are in the lower 70s.

A 115 year old record high could be tied this afternoon!  We are going to have mostly sunny skies, and it will continue to be not as humid as we typically would see for this time of year.  This is all due to the front that moved through on Monday, and the Bermuda high moving over Florida.  The front as dissipated, but the slightly drier air remains in place.  However, southerly winds will return today, and that will help to increase the humidity.  High temperatures today are going to be around 100, and that would tie the record of 100 set back in 1894.  As the humidity slowly increases this afternoon, the Heat Index will be up near 105 at times.

The skies will be clear tonight, but it will not be as comfortable as muggy weather returns.  Lows will fall down to the mid 70s.

Rest of the Week:  The humidity will continue to increase as southerly winds pump in Gulf moisture tomorrow from the Bermuda High.  We will still be very hot with mostly sunny skies as highs in the upper 90s.

On Friday, we will be back to the muggy weather again, and we will start to see a few showers popping up during the afternoon hours.  Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and hot with highs in the upper 90s.

The 4th of July Weekend will be a hot one, but only isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected both Saturday and Sunday.  A weak cold front will be stalling to the north of Louisiana, and a few disturbances will ride along it.  As they skirt our area, they will help to set off a few storms along with the help of the sea breeze, and daytime heating.  Highs both Saturday and Sunday will be in the mid 90s with lows in the mid 70s.  The chance for rain this weekend will only be 30%.

Fireworks weather on Saturday night looks to be partly cloudy and muggy with temperatures in the mid 80s.

Tropical Update:  All areas of the tropics remain quiet, and tropical cyclone formation is not expected through Thursday.
