Short Term: On this Tuesday morning, we have mostly clear skies, but it is very warm! Temperatures are in the upper 70s to lower
80s. There is also a trough of low pressure just off the Mouth of the Mississippi River, and this is setting off numerous thunderstorms off shore. Will this trough influence our weather in Baton Rouge today?
The trough of low pressure will be moving to the NNE, or moving over Louisiana. This is not forecast to become a tropical system, but will help to set off scattered showers and thunderstorms inland this afternoon. When you add in the daytime heating, that will also help to increase the coverage of rain over us. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain at times. It will still be a hot day with highs in the mid 90s.
There will be some evening showers, but they will gradually dissipate overnight. Then we will have partly cloudy skies. It will remain warm and muggy with lows in the mid 70s.
Week Ahead: The trough of low pressure will weaken through the day tomorrow. This will still set off scattered showers and thunderstorms over us mainly during the afternoon. There will be plenty of clouds around, and that will keep temperatures down a little. Highs will be in the lower 90s.
The threat for scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue into Thursday and Friday. These storms will mostly form off the afternoon sea breeze and daytime heating. High temperatures will remain in the lower 90s with lows in the mid 70s.
Tropical Update: Again, that trough of low pressure will remain weak, and not form into anything as it moves across coastal Louisiana today. However, it will bring south Louisiana scattered showers and thunderstorms.
There is also a strong tropical wave located off the coast of Africa. It shows some signs of development, but it will be slow to occur over the next few days. The wave is moving to the WNW at 15 mph.
Elsewhere. . .the tropics are quiet, and tropical cyclone formation is not expected through Wednesday.
