Weekend Update

This is the kind of weekend that would be best spent going to the beach or being near a pool.  Once again temperatures soared into the mid 90s this afternoon, but with the humidity it felt more like 105.  Tomorrow we can expect more of the same.  During the afternoon we will see a good mix of clouds and sun, and the majority of us will stay dry.   That being said there is enough moisture in place in the lower levels of the atmosphere that I wouldn’t rule out a stray shower or sprinkle during the heat of the day.  On Monday we our rain chances will increase as a cold front stalls out to our north.  This will trigger a few showers and thunderstorms during the heat of the day.  The good news is that the wet weather will help keep us a few degrees cooler with highs only climbing into the lower 90s on Monday.

Tropics

Hurricane Bertha is slowly weakening as it sits over the open Atlantic Ocean .  Winds are at 75 mph, and it is forecast to weaken over the next few days before it moves over colder waters.  The hurricane will also encounter a cold front moving off the East Coast of the   This front will help to sweep Bertha off to the north.  Right now it is moving toward the north at 1mph, and on this track Bertha will slowly approach Bermuda overnight or tomorrow morning.  The pressure has risen to 984 mb.

Elsewhere...the tropics are still calm, and tropical storm formation is not expected through Monday.
