Short Term: It is a very warm and muggy morning across the Capital City today. The skies are mostly clear, and the temperatures
are in the lower to mid 70s. There are some showers popping up along the coast, and then they will be inland by the afternoon.
The clouds will start to build up around lunchtime today, and then look for the scattered showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon. Some of these storms could be strong with heavy rain, gusty winds, and some hail. Plenty of deep tropical moisture will be pumped in from the Gulf again today. There is also an upper-level disturbance off the Texas coast and that is helping to develop more storms as it remains there. That plus typical sea breeze storms are expected. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and hot with highs in the lower 90s.
Tonight, and evening rains will end and then we will have partly cloudy skies. It will remain warm and humid with lows in the lower 70s.
Week Ahead: You can expect another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday. However, it
looks like that there will be more of you seeing rain those days. It will remain hot with highs in the lower 90s.
That change I mentioned will start on Friday. Some drier air will move across the northern Gulf Coast as an area of high pressure builds in. This will significantly lower the daily chance for rain to less than 30%. This will lead to partly cloudy skies, and it will become pretty hot. Afternoon high temperatures will be in the lower 90s.
This hot and mostly dry weather pattern will continue into the weekend with high temperatures climbing into the mid 90s. Rain chances will be 10% or less!
Tropical Update: Hurricane Bertha continues to churn in the open Atlantic, but now as a Category 3, or Major Hurricane! It is located 675 miles ENE of the Northern Leeward Islands, or 1035 miles SE of Bermuda. Winds are up to 120 mph, making it a strong Cat. 3 hurricane. Bertha is moving to the NW near 10 mph and is expected to continue on this path for the next 2 days. The pressure is down to 955 mb. Bertha looks to remain out at sea, and could possibly have an impact on Bermuda.
Elsewhere. . .the tropics are quiet, and tropical storm formation is not expected through Wednesday.
