The Week Ahead

We’ve been stuck in a typical summertime weather pattern for quite some time now, and it looks like that isn’t going to change anytime soon.  Once again tomorrow we start the day off with sunshine, clouds will increase around lunch time and scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop in the mid to late afternoon.  This pattern will continue through Thursday.  During this period highs will top out in the lower 90s and temperatures will fall off into the low to mid 70s at night.  Once again it might be a good idea to keep an umbrella in your car this week!

Tropics

Tropical Storm Bertha continues to churn in the central Atlantic .  Bertha is located just over 1000 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands .  Bertha has maximum sustained wind speeds of 60 mph, and some strengthening is forecast over the next 5 days as it moves to the west-northwest at 20 mph.  The pressure is estimated to be 998 mb.  The forecast models show Bertha remaining over the open Atlantic through next week and strengthening to a Category 1 hurricane on Tuesday.

Elsewhere. . .there are a few tropical waves, but they are not expected to develop into anything.  Therefore, tropical storm formation is not expected over the next 48 hours.
