Short Term: After a short vacation, I'm back, and it seems like I brought some rain with me. This morning we have mostly cloudy
skies with a few showers. The rain is light, and will remain that way for your commute. It is warm and muggy with temperatures in the lower 70s.
This afternoon will be a stormy one again as a rare cold front moves through. Why is it rare? It is because we typically do not see cold fronts move through Louisiana in late June. Usually that will happen in the Spring, Fall and Winter - not summer. They do happen, and this will be the case today. What this means for us is another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could be strong with gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain. Also frequent lightning is likely too with any storm. Temperatures will be around 90.
Tonight, the cold front will settle along the coast, and stall there. This will put an end to the rain for us, and look for partly cloudy skies overnight. Some drier air will move in with northerly winds, and that will allow our low temperatures to fall into the upper 60s.
Week Ahead: An area of high pressure will build in across the Deep South on Tuesday and Wednesday. This will dry us out a little as there will still be a chance for a stray thunderstorm to pop-up in the afternoon. However, the rain chances are only at 10%. It will not cool down behind this front with high temperatures in the lower 90s both days.
On Thursday, that area of high pressure will be off to the east of us, and southerly winds will return. It will become more humid as moisture moves back into the Gulf Coast. This will spark off some afternoon thunderstorms for the viewing area. Highs will be in the lower 90s.
4th of July: Rain chances will increase on Friday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected, and it will remain hot. However, the storms should die out once the sun sets. This will make the weather great for the fireworks at 9:00 PM. High temperatures will be in the lower 90s.
Tropical Update: All areas of the tropics remain quiet, and tropical storm formation is not expected through Tuesday.
