Short Term:  Once again it is a very warm and muggy morning across the Capital City.  We have mostly clear skies and temperatures are in the upper 70s.  Normal lows for this time of year would be around 69.

The weather will continue to be very persistent this afternoon - more heat, more humid, and a low chance for rain.  The ridge of high pressure that has been sitting over us, it slowly moving to the east.  As it does, it is allowing for more southerly winds to return, and these winds are making the atmosphere more moist.  This will help to produce a few showers this afternoon, but for only about 20-30% of the area.  So cross your fingers that you will be one of the lucky ones to get a shower!  High temperatures will be in the lower 90s with the Heat Index around 95 to 100 degrees!

Tonight, any showers will dissipate around sunset, and then we will be left with partly cloudy skies.  It will be another steamy night with lows in the mid 70s.

Weekend Forecast:  With that area of high pressure off to the east of us all weekend, we will have much of the same weather we are expecting today - partly cloudy skies with a few showers on both Saturday and Sunday.  It will remain hot with highs in the lower 90s, and lows in the mid 70s.

If you are headed to the Baseball at the Box, fortunately the game on Saturday is at 5:00, so we will be close to the end of the heating of the day.  It will still be hot with temperatures in the lower 90s for the first pitch under partly cloudy skies.  Keep an eye to the sky for a few showers, but it will likely remain dry.  By the end of the game, temperatures will be in the mid 80s.  You can expect the same for Sunday, but the game is a little earlier at 3:00 PM.  Be sure to wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water!

Next Week Outlook:  The new week will start out with partly cloudy skies and a few showers in the afternoon hours.  High temperatures will be in the lower 90s.  However, Tuesday through Friday, there will be plenty of moisture in the atmosphere from the surface up.  There will also be a few disturbances that will move through, and that will set off scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Needless to say, this will be some welcome rains!  Temperatures will be around 90 each day.

Tropical Update:  Everything is still very quiet across the Tropical Atlantic basin, and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.

Mississippi River Levels:  The Mississippi River continues to fall slowly. Click here for the latest on the Flood Warnings.  Here are the latest stages as of this morning:

  • Baton Rouge:  32.2 feet.  Flood Stage is at 35 feet.
  • Red River Landing:  48.8 feet.  Flood Stage is at 48 feet.  A river flood warning remains in effect!
