Short Term: It is a very warm and muggy morning across the Capital City area. There is also some patchy fog with mostly cloudy
skies. Temperatures are in the lower 70s.
Get ready for summer this afternoon! We will have mostly sunny skies, but we will have the 3 H's return for the first time in 2008. That would be Hazy, Hot and Humid! We are also looking to break the record high today. The record is 91 set back in 2003, and I am forecasting a high of 92. It will be a little breezy at times, but I don't think that will bring much relief to the heat. Be sure to drink plenty of water if you are going to be outside today, and take frequent breaks. Also, wear plenty of sunscreen!
Tonight, we will have clouds moving in ahead of our next weather maker which will come through Saturday night/Sunday. This will make it mostly cloudy, and it will remain warm and muggy. Lows will fall to the lower 70s. Some patchy fog can be expected too.
Weekend Forecast: On Saturday, the heat will continue, but we will have some more clouds around. The skies will be partly sunny, and it will remain hazy, hot and humid. High temperatures will be around 91. This is near the record of 92 set back in 2003. On
Saturday night, we will have cloudy skies, and a few showers will be possible ahead of a cold front. Lows will fall into the lower 70s once again.
On Sunday, that cold front will sweep across the state. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible, but it will not be an all day rain event. The bulk of the rain, which will not be widespread, will be in the first half of the day. This means that Mother's Day will not be a washout, and there will be some sunshine. Temperatures will be slightly "cooler" with highs in the mid 80s. We will become much cooler Sunday night, and it will be less humid too. Lows will fall to near 60!
Next Week Outlook: An area of high pressure will build in behind the cold front on Monday. This will bring some pleasant weather to Baton Rouge with partly cloudy skies, and a break from the humid conditions too. Monday and Tuesday will have highs in the lower to mid 80s.
On Wednesday, another cold front will move across the Deep South. This front will set off isolated showers and thunderstorms once again. It will remain warm with highs in the mid 80s.
We will dry out on Thursday, and it will be a few degrees cooler with highs in the lower 80s under partly cloudy skies. Friday will remain partly cloudy with temperatures still in the 80s.
