Weather Discussion

Weekend Update

Quite a few of us woke up to the sound of thunder early this morning as a line of strong to severe thunderstorms ripped across South Louisiana .  This squall line was set off by a cold front.  Temperatures didn’t fall much behind this front, but it did bring down our humidity.  That will translate in seasonably warm afternoons and cooler nights over the next couple of days.    High pressure will also be a dominant weather feature over the next few days.  Temperatures will drop off into the mid to upper 50s tonight and tomorrow night.  Meanwhile highs will rebound into the low to mid 80s tomorrow and Monday.

Mississippi River Levels:

The Mississippi River has Crested in all locations and the river is SLOWLY falling.  You can still expect flooding to occur for some time.  River Flood Warnings remain in effect until the river goes below flood stage.  Click here for the latest on the Flood Warnings.  Here are the latest stages as of this morning:

Baton Rouge :  41.1 feet.  Flood Stage is at 35 feet; however, we are protected by the levees that go to around 45 feet.

Red River Landing:  58.4 feet.  Flood Stage is at 48 feet.

Donaldsonville:  30.2 feet.  Flood stage is 27.0 feet.
