Short Term: The cold front that gave us all the rain this weekend is now offshore, and we are dealing with some lingering clouds this morning. It is also breezy and cooler with temperatures in the mid 50s.
The skies will clear by this afternoon, and we will have a gorgeous day! High pressure will build in by mid-day, and this will be the reason for the nice weather. It will be a cooler day too as the northerly winds, from the clockwise flow around high pressure, bring in less humid air from Canada. This will give us high temperatures in the mid 70s.
Tonight it will be clear and chilly! We will likely tie, if not break, the record low! We will have good radiational cooling, meaning the heat from the Earth will radiate into space, and this will lead to a cold night. Low temperatures will fall into the mid and upper 40s. The record low is 47 set back in 1965.
Week Ahead: That area of high pressure will be sitting over us for a few days, and this will make for plenty of sunshine on Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures will gradually warm up into the upper 70s tomorrow, and back into the lower 80s by Wednesday. Low temperatures will be back in the 50s.
On Thursday, that area of high pressure will move toward the east, and this will allow return flow to set up. This means we will have
southerly winds returning back to Louisiana. As this happens, it will become warmer and more humid as more moisture moves in from the Gulf. We can expect to have partly cloudy skies, and highs in the mid 80s.
A strong cold front will be marching across the Great Plains on Friday, and make its way toward Louisiana. As it nears us, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop. It will remain warm and humid with highs in the mid 80s.
That cold front will sweep across the state on Saturday, and it will bring the showers and thunderstorms with it. Some of the storms could be strong. Temperatures will be in the lower 80s for highs, and lows in the 60s. The cold front will clear the area by Sunday morning, and we will then have partly cloudy skies coming in. It will remain warm with highs in the mid 80s on Sunday.
