Short Term: We begin this Tuesday with warmer temperatures in the lower 60s and partly cloudy skies.  It is also a little more humid this morning.  A weak disturbance is moving out of Texas, and into Louisiana this morning.  This is setting of some showers over western Louisiana, and this are moving to the east.  You will want to bring an umbrella with you today. . .

That disturbance will move through our area this afternoon, and it will bring some isolated showers and thunderstorms for about 20-30% of the area.  These thunderstorms will likely be very slow movers, so if one moves over you, you could pick up a lot of rain.  Otherwise, if it is not raining, then expect partly cloudy skies.  High temperatures will be in the mid 80s.

Tonight, any rain and storms will dissipate by sunset, and then we will be left with partly cloudy skies.  It will be mild and muggy with lows in the mid 60s.

Week Ahead:  Another disturbance will move through Baton Rouge on Wednesday, and this will set off isolated thunderstorms once again for about 30% of the viewing area.  These storms could be slow movers too.  Temperatures will be in the mid 80s.

The rain chances will be a little lower for Thursday and Friday since we will not have any disturbances moving through.  However, I can't totally remove rain from the forecast.  We could still see some pop-up afternoon storms from the daytime heating.  We will remain warm with high temperatures in the lower 80s, and low temperatures in the lower 60s.

A weak cold front will approach Louisiana over the weekend, but it will not move through our area.  However, it will be close enough to set off some showers on Saturday and Sunday.  At this time, the coverage of rain will be low, so we will have plenty of sunshine out still.  It will be a little cooler with highs in the lower 80s.

Mississippi River Levels:  The Mississippi River is currently CRESTING in many locations today.  However, it will take a number of days for the river to fall.  You can still expect flooding to occur for some time.  Here are the latest stages, and crest levels:

At Baton Rouge:  42.8 feet.  A River Flood Warning has been issued for this location.  The River is forecast to crest at 43.0 feet THIS MORNING.  Flood Stage is at 35 feet, however, we are protected by the levees that go to around 45 feet.  Click here for the latest on the Flood Warnings.

At Red River Landing:  60.5 feet.  Flood Stage is at 48 feet, and a River Flood Warning is in effect here as well.  The river is forecast to crest here at 60.6 feet THIS MORNING.  All river islands and camps are under water!

At Donaldsonville:  31.3 feet.  Flood stage is 27.0 feet.  The river IS CRESTING at 31.3 feet THIS MORNING.  A River Flood Warning is in effect for here as well.
