Short Term:  This morning is much warmer than the last few!  With southerly winds in place, we have clear skies, and the temperatures are around 50.  You may not want that jacket as you head out the door today!

We will continue to see the warm and sunny weather across the Baton Rouge area.  High pressure is located along the SE U.S. coast, and this is providing us with the southerly winds.  These winds will draw in warm and more humid air from the Gulf of Mexico.  A few clouds can be expected today, giving us partly cloudy skies.  High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 70s.

Tonight will be a mild one with partly cloudy skies, and the low temperature will fall to the upper 50s.

Rest of the Week:  The southerly winds will continue on Thursday ahead of a very slow moving cold front.  This front will be located just north of the I-20 corridor.  Some rain will be likely along the front, but not for us.  We will have another fantastic day with partly cloudy skies, and high temperatures around 80.

That cold front will sag to the south on Friday, but it will still be north of Baton Rouge.  Since we will remain south of it, we will have another warm day, but it will be a bit more humid.  A few showers are also possible late in the day for about 20% of the area.  High temperatures will be in the lower 80s.

Weekend Outlook:  That cold front will remain north of us all weekend, but it will be close enough to set off a few showers, especially on Saturday.  We are still only looking for isolated showers for about 30% of the area, so a washout is not expected.  Otherwise, on Saturday and Sunday we will have partly cloudy skies, and it will remain warm with highs around 80 both days.

Mississippi River LevelsThe Mississippi River continues to rise here in south Louisiana from the recent rains across the Mid-Mississippi River and Ohio River Valleys.  Currently the the river in Baton Rouge was at 32.3 feet.  A River Flood Warning has been issued for this location.  The River is forecast to crest at 39 feet by Monday, April 7.  Flood Stage is at 35 feet, however, we are protected by the levees that go to around 45 feet.  Click here for the latest on the Flood Warnings.

The Mississippi River at red River Landing is currently at 49.1 feet.  Flood Stage is at 48 feet, and a River Flood Warning is in effect here as well.  The river is forecast to crest here at 56 feet on the morning of April 6th.  All river islands and camps will be under water!

Of course if there are serious flooding concerns, then the Army Corp of Engineers will open the flood gates in Morganza, and along the Bonnet Carre Spillway in New Orleans to relieve the pressure on the levees.

We will continue to closely watch the river as it rises over the next week!  Keep it tuned to News 2 for updates!
