Happy Leap Day!!!
School Visits: Recently I have been traveling around the viewing area giving talks to our schools. On Wednesday, I traveled down to Dutchtown Primary and read to the Kindergardener class for Dr. Seuss's birthday! Then I preented the Weather Road Show to the 2nd graders who are learning all about weather. We had a great time, and thank you for having me visit!
Yesterday, I traveled over to the Episcopal School, and preseneted the Weather Road Show to the 3rd graders. We talked about severe weather, and how we are in severe weather season now! Thank you for the invitation as well!
Next week I will be headed to French Settlement Elementary to read to the students there for Dr. Seuss's birthday!
Short Term: We are under mostly cloudy skies on this Friday morning. It is not near as cold as it was yesterday as temperatures today in the lower 50s.
This afternoon will be an unseasonably warm one with a mix of clouds and sun. The southerly winds will continue to usher in the warm and more humid air. A cold front will move toward Louisiana and the Southeast today. This front is pretty weak, and the southern end of it will likely dissipate as it moves by Baton Rouge. Since there is plenty of moisture in the air, and the front is moving by, we could see a few showers pop-up ahead and along the front. Only light to moderate rain is expected. Temperatures will climb into the lower 70s today.
Tonight, we will increase the clouds as the front dissipates. Again, a shower or two is possible, but for only about 20-30% of the area. Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy and cool with lows in the lower 50s.
Weekend Forecast: Since the cold front does not change our weather much, we will have a pretty nice, but warm weekend. On
Saturday, we will have partly cloudy skies with highs in the lower 70s. On Sunday, we will start the day off with partly cloudy skies, but look for a gradual increase in cloud cover by Sunday night. The clouds are increasing ahead of a 2nd cold front that will move through by Monday night. A few showers are possible late in the day. It will be warm on Sunday with highs in the lower to mid 70s
Next Week Outlook: That second cold front will be moving across the U.S. on Monday and Monday night. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are likely. Some of these storms could be strong to severe. The Storm Prediction Center is highlighting our area for the potential for severe weather. At this time it is still too early to pinpoint the severity and timing. Be sure to tune in to News 2 on Sunday and especially Monday to get the latest forecasts. It will be warm and humid with highs in the mid 70s.
On Tuesday, the cold front will be along the East Coast, and high pressure will follow it. Northerly winds will draw down some unseasonably cold air too. High temperatures will only get to the mid and upper 50s!! However, the cold snap does not last long. Sunny skies are expected on Wednesday with high temperatures in the mid 60s.
