Short Term:  I hope you have a warm coat because you will need it this morning!!  It is a clear, cold and frosty start to this Thursday with temperatures in the lower 30s.  Some areas in southern Mississippi may touch the upper 20s!  BRRRRR!!

However, we will be warming up and defrosting this afternoon.  The area of high pressure that was sitting over us yesterday is now moving to the east.  This will allow for return flow, or southerly winds, to come back to Baton Rouge.  These winds will start transporting in warmer and more humid weather from the Gulf of Mexico.  You will notice that there will be a few clouds today, verses the clear skies yesterday.  High temperatures will be in the mid 60s.

Tonight, we will not be as cold, and there will be more clouds around.  The skies will be partly cloudy, and with the southerly winds, our low temperatures will only fall to the upper 40s.

Weekend Outlook:  On Friday, we will have a cold front coming close to Louisiana.  It will be much warmer and more humid ahead of it, or over us.  This means we will have mostly cloudy skies, and could also see a shower or two pop-up.  Plan to take your umbrella with you as you head out the door.  Only about 20-30% of the area will see rain.  You will not want that jacket as the high temperatures will be in the lower 70s.

On Saturday, that cold front will dissipate, and never make it through Baton Rouge.  Our temperatures will not fall because of this, but we will still have some clouds around.  Highs will be in the lower 70s.  On Sunday, it will remain warm with partly cloudy skies.  Highs will be in the lower to mid 70s.

Next Week Outlook:  A strong cold front will move through the Deep South on Monday.  This front will set off scattered showers and thunderstorms, and some of those could be strong to severe.  We will have to keep an eye on this system, but will have a better feel on how strong the storms will be by Sunday night.  Highs will be in the 70s before the front moves through.

A much cooler day is expected on Tuesday with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 50s.  Warmer weather returns quickly on Wednesday with sunny skies and highs in the mid 60s.

Severe Weather Awareness Week:  This week has been named Severe Weather Awareness Week by the National Weather Service.  For more information about this, check our daily special Weather Blogs featuring specific topics related to severe weather.
