There could be a difference in your paychecks starting next year. Gov. Bobby Jindal is backing a bill that eliminates the Stelly Plan tax increase. If passed, the bill could mean hundreds of dollars in tax relief, but it's only part of what some lawmakers hoped to accomplish.

For many the cost of gas is forcing some tough spending choices, especially when the paycheck just doesn't stretch far enough. As financial times grow tougher, some Americans are wrestling with how far they're willing to go for a little extra cash. On Wednesday we found some folks who were willing to bleed for it.

Tuesday night's matchup between UNO and LSU in the Wally Pontiff Classic was nothing short of an instant classic. Neither team gave an inch in their final mid-week game of the year, but once the game wrapped up after midnight, LSU had a 13-game winning streak, thanks to a win on the 14th day of the month in what was a 15th inning affair.

Groups were chosen to take over troubled schools in the Baton Rouge area, but a lot of people didn't like the decision. Under the recommendations by the state Board of Education, Advance Baton Rouge and 100 Black Men will be running three of the schools in the area. An independent panel put made the recommendations, and they weren't approved without a fight.

Louisiana taxpayers may see a savings in their paychecks starting in January. Gov. Bobby Jindal offered his support to eliminate the Stelly Plan, a plan approved in 2002 that resulted in a tax increase for most people.

Two and a half years after hurricanes Katrina and Rita, two-thirds of the coastal parish's residents say the storms have affected the mental health of their community. Of those surveyed, 60 percent said there are few specialized health care services and medicines available for mental health care.

A bill limiting what records the governor and his staff can keep private is once again drawing debate. Supporters of the bill say public distrust will be created by allowing too many exemptions, while those opposed to it say state negotiations with business leaders could be damaged without some privacy.

Police have made an arrest after finding what appeared to be a bomb outside of a grocery store in Livonia. David Clemons, 46, is charged with manufacturing and possessing a bomb. The incident happened at Soprano's Supermarket on Highway 190 Tuesday morning.

Homeowners in Baton Rouge want to know who is responsible for fixing roads that were damaged by high water from the Mississippi River. Over the past month the high river caused water to bubble up and leave holes in a road in the Laurel Estates neighborhood behind the Riverbend subdivision.

The downtown riverfront is about to get a whole new look. The River Park development will be built along River Road near the Hollywood Casino. The idea behind the project is to bring more people downtown to live, work and play.

Expect to deal with rain showers during the day Wednesday.

A highway in West Baton Rouge has been reopened after police found an explosive device. Early Tuesday morning police closed portions of Highway 190 in Pointe Coupee Parish.

A proposal to allow guns on college campuses in Louisiana is running into some heavy opposition. Prominent members of the LSU community are speaking out against the bill that is winding its way through the Legislature. More than 20 coaches and directors signed a letter asking the House not to approve the bill.

Two women are behind bars in Livingston Parish after police say they left a baby alone in a car while they were out drinking and doing drugs. The baby was found at the Super Stop in Livingston.

The cleanup is under way in West Feliciana Parish after the Mississippi River flooded homes and businesses. The river crested last month in the area, and flooding displaced at least four families and caused several businesses to shut down.

The LSU baseball team said goodbye to Alex Box Stadium on Sunday as the Tigers completed a three-game sweep of Mississippi State and ran LSU’s winning streak to 12 games.

Legislators need more time to figure out how to give you tax relief. On Monday a committee postponed a vote on a bill to eliminate the state income tax.

DNA evidence exonerated Gene Bibbins six years ago, setting him free after he was wrongfully convicted of raping a child. The same DNA sample also linked him to another rape. Now Bibbins is suing the city for $1 million as a form of compensation for the time he served in prison.

The state attorney general is working with Facebook to make the site safer for young users. A total of 49 states have entered into an agreement with the popular social networking site to push through changes and safeguards to protect your kids from predators and inappropriate content online.

It was a big day for hundreds of college students Friday as Southern University graduated 685 students. Southern officials can't say exactly how many graduates have jobs that will keep them in state, something that would help stem the "brain drain" from Louisiana that even Gov. Bobby Jindal complains about.

Four more construction projects in the Baton Rouge area are in line to get state money. Lawmakers have added more than $9 million in projects to the list, including the Pride Volunteer Fire Department, which could get close to $100,000.
