WBRZ Partners with The Cinderella Project for Prom Dress Donations

WBRZ is teaming up with The Cinderella Project of Baton Rouge for The WBRZ and Cinderella Project Third Annual Prom Dress Giveaway.  The Cinderella Project is a volunteer organization that fosters empowerment and individual beauty by providing free prom dresses to high school students who cannot otherwise afford them.  Currently, the project is in need of dress donations to be given to students in East Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes for this year’s prom season.

Together with WBRZ, the Cinderella Project is hosting a week-long Dress Drop-Off event at all branches of the YMCA of the Capital Area between Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 27.  Dress donations can be made during regular YMCA branch hours and must be in very good condition, on hangers and dry-cleaned. Last spring, nearly 700 girls received free dresses thanks to thousands of donations to The Cinderella Project.

The WBRZ and Cinderella Project 2010 Dress Giveaway will take place on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11 at The Sheraton Baton Rouge Convention Center Hotel located in downtown Baton Rouge. The main criteria for student participation will be their eligibility for the federal free and reduced-price lunch program.  Eligible students will have an opportunity to try on and select a dress in a fun, respectful environment.  Local service organizations including the Junior League of Baton Rouge will provide volunteer assistance to collect and organize dress donations for the Dress Giveaway.

New this year, the organization will also collect donations of new and gently-used wedding gowns at area Y branches.  A similar giveaway event for brides-to-be will be planned.

Donations can also be made year-round at Appletree Storage, located at 10560 Perkins Road, across from Perkins Rowe.
