Help Local Children through “WBRZ’s Stuff The Bus”

WBRZ News 2 Louisiana is teaming up with Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, Office Depot, the East Baton Rouge and Ascension Parish School Systems, Volunteers in Public Schools and Volunteer Ascension for “WBRZ’s Stuff the Bus,” a school supply drive to benefit needy children in our community.

This is the second year for “WBRZ’s Stuff the Bus.” Last year $33,000 worth of supplies was collected for East Baton Rouge Parish schools. This year, we have expanded our “Stuff the Bus” campaign to include Ascension Parish along with East Baton Rouge Parish. Livingston Parish officials declined to participate saying their current school supply campaign fulfills all the needs of their students. But, as we look to expand, we’ll invite them again next year, as well as consider other areas. We want to “Stuff the Buses” and help all children in our viewing area.
 
This year’s collection day will be held at the Office Depot located at 3116 College Drive in Baton Rouge and the Airline Highway location in Gonzales on Wednesday, July 8th from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The public is encouraged to help WBRZ completely fill one (1) East Baton Rouge Parish school bus and one (1) Ascension Parish School bus with the necessary supplies needed to help get students started this school year. Local students currently need school supplies like: No.2 pencils, pens, notebook paper (wide ruled), black & white composition notebooks, construction paper, binders, scissors, glue, 12 inch ruler (metric and standard units), pocket folders, colored pencils, markers, dividers and compass protractors.

Raising Cane’s will also be holding a donation drive within their restaurants from June 23 through July 7. Everyone that comes into the store and donates will be given a free lemonade or tea. Everyone that donates at “WBRZ’s Stuff the Bus” collection day will be given a free lemonade card.
