Anna Brown announced as WBRZ’s 12th LSU Apprentice
  • Published: May 13, 2009

WBRZ News 2 Louisiana has named Anna Brown as the recipient of the station’s 2009 LSU Apprenticeship.  A mass communication major with a focus on broadcast journalism, Brown will begin her apprenticeship in June 2009.  The announcement was made at the LSU Hall of Fame Gala held at the Manship School of Mass Communications’ Journalism Building on Friday, May 1, 2009.

WBRZ News 2 Louisiana selected Brown from among a slate of candidates submitted to the station by LSU.  The candidates had to demonstrate a high potential for success and an interest in television, in addition to having a great work ethic and a high grade point average.  WBRZ News 2 Louisiana chose Brown as the candidate who best fulfilled the criteria.

Brown’s past experience in media includes part-time editing and reporting for WVLA-TV in Baton Rouge, interning as a desk assistant at WSB-TV in Atlanta and WWL-TV in New Orleans, as well as anchoring and reporting for Tiger TV at LSU.  Brown also worked for WBRZ News 2 Louisiana as a part-time editor.  She has already won several awards for her experiences in media including the SPJ Mark of Excellence Award for 2009 TV Breaking News Reporting and CxC Digital Media Festival 2008 winner for Best of Broadcast Journalism.

WBRZ News 2 Louisiana established the apprenticeship in 1998 with the LSU Manship School of Mass Communications.  By creating a one-year commitment between the station and the student, the program will give Brown the opportunity to establish a career path in the area of her choice.  This format is designed to give the apprentice a broad, overall experience to the functioning of one or more departments in the station.
