“Wheel of Fortune to feature local contestants”
This spring several local residents from the Baton Rouge area will appear on “Wheel of Fortune.” This syndicated game show can be seen locally on WBRZ Channel 2, airing Monday through Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
The first local contestant, Ascension Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Sherri Despino, will spin the wheel on Friday, March 27. She will be followed by Cody Yawn of Hammond on Monday, March 30; Rikki Hegwood of Baton Rouge airs on Thursday, April 23; Brandon Kelly of Baton Rouge will appear on Tuesday, April 28; Robyn Parker of Denham Springs airs on Friday, May 1; Lesley Noto of Baton Rouge appears on Friday, May 8; Wanda Williams of Baker airs on Friday, May 15.. Ten other Baton Rouge contestants have been chosen to appear on the show sometime during the fall of 2009 and/or spring of 2010. Air dates are subject to change.
For these local residents, the trip to the show began at WBRZ’s “Wheelmobile” event held this past October at the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino’s Belle Atrium. Wheel of Fortune’s promotional vehicle, the “Wheelmobile,” rolled into Baton Rouge in search of some good game players who were also energetic and fun. At the event, locals were chosen at random to go onstage, five at a time, and compete in a speed-up version of the game show. Contestants were given a brief interview and a chance to play, while being evaluated as a potential contestant for “Wheel of Fortune.” Contestants who passed the evaluation were then invited to the final audition held in January in Baton Rouge.
Now in its 26th year, Wheel of Fortune is syndication’s longest-running most successful series.
