WBRZ-TV, the ABC Television affiliate in Baton Rouge, LA, today announced the launch of its new "Continuous News" Web site, www.wbrz.com. The site is the first of its kind in the community and is specifically designed to meet the online news and information needs of people throughout their workday.

WBRZ is teaming up with The Cinderella Project of Baton Rouge for The WBRZ and Cinderella Project Third Annual Prom Dress Giveaway. The Cinderella Project is a volunteer organization that fosters empowerment and individual beauty by providing free prom dresses to high school students who cannot otherwise afford them. Currently, the project is in need of dress donations to be given to students in East Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes for this year’s prom season. WBRZ Sports 2 Louisiana will kick off the 2009 prep football season in South Louisiana with the 14th year of the Fans’ Choice High School Athlete of the Week Award. WBRZ Channel 2 has named Joseph Wilkins as Graphics Manager for the station. WBRZ will broadcast “WBRZ Sports 2’s College Football Preseason Special”, a one-hour college football show, beginning at 7pm on Thursday, August 27, 2009. WBRZ will broadcast “Friday Night Blitz Preseason Special”, an hour high school football show, beginning at 7pm on Friday, August 21, 2009. WBRZ’s 2une In is giving one lucky viewer the opportunity to win the “WBRZ and Galatoire’s Bistro Ultimate Tailgate Party”. The contest starts Saturday, August 8 through Thursday, September 3, 2009, at 12 noon. WBRZ News 2 Louisiana is teaming up with Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, Office Depot, the East Baton Rouge and Ascension Parish School Systems, Volunteers in Public Schools and Volunteer Ascension for “WBRZ’s Stuff the Bus,” a school supply drive to benefit needy children in our community. The Louisiana Associated Press has recognized WBRZ News 2 Louisiana as the recipient of 6 major awards including Best Weathercast. The Louisiana Association of Broadcasters recognized WBRZ as the recipient of its 2009 Television Station of the Year Award. The award recognizes WBRZ’s leadership in news, sales, production, programming, marketing, public service, and commitment to our community. WBRZ News 2 Louisiana has named Anna Brown as the recipient of the station’s 2009 LSU Apprenticeship. A mass communication major with a focus on broadcast journalism, Brown will begin her apprenticeship in June 2009. The announcement was made at the LSU Hall of Fame Gala held at the Manship School of Mass Communications’ Journalism Building on Friday, May 1, 2009. Starting on Monday, April 27, 2009, WBRZ News 2 Louisiana will be partnering with FOX 29 KVHP-TV in Lake Charles. “FOX 29 News from the Capital” will be a rebroadcast of News 2 Louisiana at 6 p.m. WBRZ’s News 2 at 6 p.m. will rebroadcast on KVHP-TV Monday through Friday at 9 p.m. This spring several local residents from the Baton Rouge area will appear on “Wheel of Fortune.” This syndicated game show can be seen locally on WBRZ Channel 2, airing Monday through Saturday at 6:30 p.m. WBRZ is pleased to announce a High Definition first for the Capitol City area.
