One dead, two hurt in wreck on La. 40
A crash left one person dead and two people injured early Sunday in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana State Police said.
Javier Gachuzo, 22, was driving a 1997 Dodge Avenger east on La. 40 when the car left the roadway as it curved to the left, State Police Troop L spokesman Louis Calato said.
The car continued in the ditch until it hit a driveway and went airborne for several feet, Calato said.
Acadian Ambulance transported two passengers, a 25-year-old and 65-year-old, to St. Tammany Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries, Calato said.
A third passenger, whose identity is not being released pending notification of family, was partially ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office.
Gachuzo, of Covington, was uninjured in the crash and was booked into St. Tammany Parish Jail on counts of vehicular homicide, driving without a license, first-offense DWI and careless operation, the release says.
