Claire Hatty joined the WBRZ news team during the summer of 2004.
Originally from Lafitte, Louisiana, Claire attended LSU where she majored in Mass Communications, concentrating in Broadcast Journalism, and minored in Theatre. During her time as a student, Claire worked at Tiger TV as a sports anchor, news director, and producer.
Claire interned at WBRZ in 2002, and at WDSU in New Orleans in 2003. She has also worked as an on-location journalist for Varsity.com, covering dance competitions and as the Marketing Director for the Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre.
Claire has received several awards for her journalism while at WBRZ. In 2008, the Louisiana Associated Press awarded her Reporter of the Year and 3rd place Continuing Coverage for her reporting on a murder. The Louisiana AP also awarded her third place for Best Investigative Reporting and second for Best Spot News in 2007. In addition to those awards, Claire was recognized at a United Nations workshop for her reporting of victims from Hurricane Katrina and was also the recipient of the 2004 School Bell Award for Excellence in Education Journalism.
When asked why she chose television as her career, Claire answered, "My two favorite things are talking and meeting new people, so what better career than TV!"
Claire resides in Baton Rouge. In her spare time, she enjoys anything pertaining to dance or theatre.
