UAPB downs Grambling; PVU holds off Ala. A&M

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Mickey Dean ran for two touchdowns and threw for one more to help give Arkansas-Pine Bluff a 49-42 win despite Grambling State dominating the statistics in Saturday’s game.
Pine Bluff quarterback Josh Boudreaux helped with two scoring passes, including a 41-yarder to Danny Evans.
Running back Mareo Howard returned a third-quarter kickoff for 95 yards for a touchdown, and Joseph Brown intercepted Grambling State quarterback Greg Dillon, returning it 40 yards for a touchdown.
The big plays helped the Golden Lions (5-3, 3-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) overcome a Grambling State (5-4, 3-2) offense that outrushed and outpassed them 462 yards to 272.
Dillon was 17 for 30 for 195 yards passing and had three touchdowns.
For Grambling, Cornelius Walker ran for 101 yards and a TD, and Dominic Bell picked up a blocked punt, returning it for a TD.
PRAIRIE VIEW 33, ALABAMA A&M 27: In Prairie View, Texas, KJ Black threw for three touchdowns and Prairie View survived a late rally by Alabama A&M to defeat the Bulldogs.
Prairie View (6-1, 5-0) got out to an early lead, scoring on the opening drive when Gabe Osaze-Ediae caught a 21-yard pass from Black.
Black found Osaze-Ediae again to score on a 72-yard pass and connected with Anthony Weeden on a 21-yard scoring throw, all before the half.
The Bulldogs’ only first-half score was a 42-yard rushing TD by Ulysses Banks. They trailed 24-7 at halftime.
After giving Prairie View a safety and allowing a 4-yard rushing score by Donald Babers in the third, Alabama A&M (5-4, 2-3) turned it on.
Deaunte Mason scored on a pair of 1-yard runs, and Rashad Johnson caught a 4-yard TD pass from Kevin Atkins.
JACKSON STATE 19, ALABAMA STATE 7: In Jackson, Miss., Bloi-Dei Dorzon rushed for a touchdown and had a 49-yard run to set up another score in Jackson State’s win over Alabama State.
