Southern soccer wins, clinches tourney berth

The Southern University Lady Jaguars soccer team defeated Texas Southern 3-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference action Sunday.
The victory secured fourth place in the West Division and guaranteed Southern a spot in the SWAC postseason tournament.
Southern freshman Raven White had a game high 13 shots and two goals, the second of which came in the second overtime to secure the victory.
Texas Southern got on the board in the first half at the 10 minute mark on a goal by Angelica Belford goal whils Cynthia Pineda had TSU’s other goal in the 51st minute.
Southern (4-14, 1-3 SWAC) was down 2-0 until the 73rd minute when White kicked in a penalty kick for her second goal of the season.
Southern tied the game 10 minutes later when senior Amanda Soto-Ortiz connected off of a deflection from freshman Kristen Andre and senior Tiffany Cantu.
