LAFAYETTE -- Ashley Augerson scored 15 points to lead the Southern women's basketball team to a 62-51 victory today against Louisiana-Lafayette.
During its rough-and-tumble mini-tour of the Big 12 Conference, the Southern men’s basketball team learned a painful lesson: Those big-money programs have plenty of height and muscle in the post. Facing three in-state opponents in the first week of the regular season, the Southern women’s basketball team was well aware of the challenge it faced, but excited about the opportunities. The Southern University athletic department suddenly lost a longtime employee Thursday when David Hawkins, assistant athletic director for finance and business, received a letter of termination and boxed up personal items with a police officer watching.
