Leesville quarterback commits to Auburn

Leesville quarterback Travante Stallworth committed to Auburn after participating in the Tigers summer camp over the weekend.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Stallworth, who plays quarterback for his high school team, is projected to play wide receiver at Auburn. He is the 16th commitment for the Tigers and joins fellow Louisiana native — Wilfred Journet — as part of the Tigers’ recruiting class.
Journet, a 6-3, 244-pound defensive end, was a standout defensive end on Acadiana High’s 2006 Class 5A state championship team before signing with Copiah-Lincoln (Miss.) Community College.
Elsewhere, the University of Louisiana at Monroe picked up its second commitment from linebacker Ben Giles (6-1, 230) from Pace, Fla. He joins nose guard Blake Cogswell (6-2, 285) of Shreveport-Evangel.
LSU men’s tennis signs Ireland native Bowtell
Ireland native Mark Bowtell has signed a letter of intent to play with the LSU men’s tennis team, coach Jeff Brown announced.
Bowtell will be the second Irishman on the Tigers as senior-to-be James Cluskey is from Dublin.
He won the 2004 National Irish U-14 Indoor Championship. He captured the 2005 U-16 National Masters Championship.
Clements named swimming assistant
Kevin Clements, who served as an assistant coach at Maryland for the past three seasons, has joined the LSU swimming and diving coaching staff, head coach Adam Schmitt announced Wednesday.
Clements will serve as the recruiting coordinator of the men’s program and play a pivotal role in the training and development of current swimmers on both teams. Clements was a 14-time NCAA All-American at Auburn from 1999-2002.
LAFAYETTE — Louisiana-Lafayette announced Theo Sliman as its new men’s golf coach Wednesday.
