The Louisiana High School Athletic Association has announced a plan for hosting its softball seeding meeting April 11 at Alexandria Senior High.

Coaches for all playoff teams in Classes 5A and C will meet at 9 a.m. in the ASH auditorium.

Only head coaches will be allowed to vote on playoff seeding for teams in their respective classes. The procedure will be similar to the one following the basketball regular season.

Coaches will be divided into groups according to their schools’ classifications and will be given information on teams in that class, such as records and district finish, that were collected by the LHSAA. District information and records must be submitted to the LHSAA by 11 p.m. April 10.

Contact assistant commissioners Rhonda McCullough or B.J. Guzzardo for information at (225) 296-5882.

College signees etc.

Redemptorist offensive lineman Nick Hammond has signed with Belhaven College of Jackson, Miss. Hammond (6-foot-3, 255 pounds) was a first-team All-District 8-3A and an All-Metro selection last fall.

  • University High baseball player Troy Collins has committed to Loyola of New Orleans, according to a news release from Loyola.

Collins was a pitcher-outfielder for the Cubs, who has 10 home runs and 60 runs batted in during his career.

“He (Collins) can contribute right away from the mound and from the outfield and I am happy to have him,” Loyola coach Gerald Cassard said.

Longtime McKinley coach William Morris and Southern University track coach Johnnie Thomas were inducted into the McKinley High Hall of Fame.

Thomas and Morris were honored at the school’s alumni basketball game March 20 at the school.
