BAINS — Catholic-New Iberia stopped a two-point conversion run with about three minutes to play to preserve a 35-33 victory at West Feliciana in a Class 3A bidistrict state football playoff game Friday night.

The Saints (6-5) were in position to tie after Adrian Webb caught a 61-yard touchdown pass from DeShawn Morrison.

Trailing 21-7 at halftime, CHSNI (7-4), the No. 20 seed, outscored the Saints 28-6 to take a 35-27 lead in the fourth quarter.

CHSNI quarterback Taylor Bullock and Devin Boutte connected for two touchdown passes — a 36-yarder in the first quarter and a 15-yarder in the fourth quarter.

In the third quarter, Bullock also had an 8-yard TD run sandwiched between a 4-yard TD run from Thomas Theriot and a 15-yard Brady Rogers run that gave CHSNI a 28-27 lead.

WFHS, seeded 13th, ran for 384 yards, with the late touchdown pass accounting for most of the Saints’ 93 yards through the air.

Morrison had 157 yards, including touchdown runs of 9 and 15 yards, on 21 carries, while Roberto Johnson ran 13 times for 187 yards, including TD runs of 1 and 80 yards.

Class 4A

BREAUX BRIDGE 42, EAST JEFFERSON 6: In Metairie, ninth-ranked and 21st-seeded Breaux Bridge (7-4) piled up 14 points in the second quarter and, sparked by Trevence Patt’s 95-yard kickoff return for a TD to start the second half, unloaded for 28 points in the third quarter to blast No. 12 seed East Jefferson.

Latrelyn Pete ran for two touchdowns and Hunter Landry threw for a touchdown (a 37-yarder to Layne Theriot) and ran for another.

Class 1A

VARNADO 32, CATHOLIC-POINTE COUPEE 20: In Varnado, Laterrius Crumedy ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries and passed for another touchdown as Varnado advanced.

With the game tied at 20-20 in the fourth quarter, No. 15 seed Varnado (6-5) scored the game’s final two touchdowns, getting Delvin Allen’s 24-yard touchdown run and then Da’Oren Roberts’ 100-yard punt return with 37 seconds to play.
