Parkview Baptist scored 19 points in a four-minute span to build an early lead, as the Eagles routed Marksville 40-8 in a Class 3A bidistrict playoff game Friday night at Parkview.
Second-seeded Parkview (9-1) led 26-0 at the half.
Senior quarterback Brady Wilson passed for two touchdowns and ran for another for Parkview. Senior tailback Drew Dileo added receiving and rushing touchdowns. Both players were contributors for Parkview’s 2007 state title team.
“The kids came out ready to play tonight and did a good job,” said Parkview coach Kenny Guillot. “Brady did a good job of calling the plays and throwing the ball. We want to keep moving on in the playoffs and we did that.
“Our defense did a great job. Coach Jay Mayet and his defensive staff had us ready. I thought we played physical football and that’s what I like to see. We came through pretty good with no injuries.”
Wilson completed his first five passes for 92 yards and finished 8 of 13 for 143 yards. Dileo, a Michigan commitment, made three catches for 74 yards.
Wilson passed 48 yards to Dileo down the right sideline to put Parkview up 12-0 with 7:51 remaining in the first quarter. That one-play drive was sandwiched around Paxton Cook’s 2-yard TD run and Wilson’s 23-yard scoring toss to Russell Reynolds that put the Eagles up 19-0 with 6:06 remaining in the first quarter.
The Parkview defense contributed to that surge as sophomore Brody Burkhalter recovered a fumble on Marksville’s second offensive play and Orin Fontenot and Christian Stansell deflected passes to end the Tigers’ third offensive series.
Parkview drove 40 yards in four plays to move ahead 26-0 with 8:51 remaining in the first half. Wilson scored on a 14-yard run on an option keeper.
Parkview received the kickoff to open the third quarter. The Eagles drove 65 yards in nine plays. Parkview picked up four straight first downs on four plays as Dileo had carries of 14 and 12 yards and fullback Brandon Johnson caught a 14-yard pass and ran for 11 yards.
Dileo finished the drive with a 2-yard scoring run as the Eagles lead 33-0 with 6:58 remaining.
Marksville (5-6) put together a 15-play, 71-yard drive. Adam Roethele, one of 12 Parkview seniors, ended the drive with an interception in the end zone.
That set up Parkview’s final score. The Eagles drove 80 yards in 13 plays. Johnson had six carries in the drive and scored on a 10-yard run. Backup quarterback Jake Clouatre gained seven yards on a fourth-down play.
