Kentwood edges Southern Lab

KENTWOOD — In the regular-season finale for both teams, Kentwood scored two touchdowns in the first half and held Southern Lab out of the end zone on a fourth-quarter two-point conversion attempt to prevail, 14-13.
It was the only District 6-1A loss of the season for the Kittens (7-3, 3-1), who entered Friday’s game as the No. 9-ranked team in Class 1A.
Kentwood (4-5, 2-2) had just one district win heading into the game, having defeated last-place Archbishop Hannan on Oct. 16.
On Friday, the Kangaroos took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a 6-yard run by Harlan Miller. Kentwood made it 14-0 in the second quarter when Harlan found Desmond Sibley on an 11-yard touchdown pass and the Kangaroos added a two-point conversion.
The Kittens cut it to 14-7 when Maurice Aucoin scored from 3 yards out. In the fourth quarter, quarterback Brandon Patin fired a 9-yard pass to Cardell Brown.
Southern Lab opted to go for two points and the win, but their run attempt failed.
Patin led the completed 19 of 33 pass for 138 yards and a touchdown.
LUTCHER 42, MORGAN CITY 0: In Lutcher, the top-ranked team in Class 4A scored five first-half touchdowns and cruised to victory over Morgan City, wrapping up a perfect regular season.
Bulldogs quarterback Gavin Webster ran for three touchdowns and threw for one more, accounting for 236 yards of offense. He completed 8 of 12 pass for 182 yards and ran for 54 yards on four carries.
Daniel Taylor ran for 82 yards and two touchdowns on eight attempts to lead Lutcher (10-0, 5-0 District 8-4A).
The Bulldogs took a 35-0 lead when Webster connected with Trevor Englade on a 64-yard touchdown with 1:35 left before the halftime.
Shermaine Francois led the Tigers (2-8, 1-4) with 89 rushing yards on 13 attempts.
DONALDSONVILLE 42, DUNHAM 20: In Donaldsonville, trailing by four points at halftime, Donaldsonville pulled away from Dunham in the second half.
