Trio leads Ascension Catholic to playoff victory

DONALDSONVILLE — Elaine Pearce, Alaina Poirrier and Anna Lassere teamed to lead Ascension Catholic to a 3-0 volleyball playoff victory over Ascension Christian on Tuesday night.

Poirrier had 20 assists and two digs for the Bulldogs (11-14), who won by scores of 25-10, 25-15, 25-11. Ascension Catholic advances to face White Castle in the Division I-Classes 1A, B, C regional round.

Lassere had seven kills and three digs, while Pearce tallied four kills, three digs and two blocks.

Krystal Braud helped lead Ascension Christian (10-18) with four kills and three blocks.

Neese Memorial starts Saturday

A full field of 24 two-player teams will participate in the annual Harry Neese Memorial golf tournament at City Park Saturday and Sunday.

The initial tee-off time for the scramble is 8 a.m. Saturday, and the last is at 9:50 a.m.

After 18 holes of medal play Saturday, teams will be flighted for Sunday’s 18-hole best-ball round.

Defending champions Donnie Chatelain and Brad Jackson had to withdraw because of another commitment and were replaced by another team from an alternate list.
