GOHS' Addison shines on both sides of ball

Geremany Addison of Glen Oaks started Friday’s game with two first-quarter touchdown runs and ended it with an interception.

Addison was in on just three other defensive plays before he intercepted Istrouma’s Corey Williams with 55 seconds remaining.

The bookend effort helped Glen Oaks notch a 22-18 victory over Istrouma at the Indians’ newly-christened Elisha “Tack” Jackson Stadium.

“I had to get one for my team,” Addison said of the interception. “We needed a play.”

With the rain-soaked win, the Panthers (6-3, 5-1) remain tied for first in District 7-4A going into the final week of the regular season.

“It’s tough to practice all week and then have to throw out the game plan because of the weather,” Glen Oaks coach Landry Williams said. “We knew Istrouma would come back. Our defense did bend, but it didn’t break.”

William Franklin led GOHS with 87 yards on nine carries, including what proved to be the game-winning 56-yard TD run late in the third quarter. Addison had 69 yards on 14 carries. Addison also scored both two-point conversions.

Kenny Bell, who ran for a game-high 154 yards on 21 carries and scored two TDs, one of which came on a 55-yard run, led Istrouma (3-6, 3-3).

“We made too many mistakes,” Istrouma coach McKinney Evans said. “We should have done a better job coaching. We shot ourselves in the foot with penalties.”

Glen Oaks scored on its first two possessions. Istrouma got the opening kickoff, but turned the ball over on its first play. An interception by Aaron Wright gave GOHS the ball at the IHS 31. Six plays later, Addison scored on a 14-yard run.

The point-after kick failed, leaving Glen Oaks with a 6-0 lead at the 9:16 mark. After a short punt, the Panthers were back in business again.

A seven-play, 54-yard drive ended with a 19-yard TD run by Addison, who also ran for the two-point conversion, making it 14-0 with 5:02 left in the first quarter.

Istrouma made big plays in the second quarter. Defensive back Ryan Cameron made two interceptions and also recovered a fumble for the Indians.
