Two traditional southeast Louisiana football powers collide when Amite (11-0) hosts Lutcher (9-2) for a Class 3A quarterfinal football playoff game tonight.
The Lutcher-Amite game is one of many quarterfinals involving southeast and Acadiana area teams.
Amite is one of two Tangipahoa-based schools who enter tonight’s games with an unbeaten record.
Hammond’s St. Thomas Aquinas (11-0) plays at defending Class 2A state champion John Curtis (11-1).
Two Southeast area 5A teams, defending state champion Destrehan (11-0) and Thibodaux (10-0) also enter the quarterfinal unbeaten.
Thibodaux travels to Lake Charles to take on Barbe (11-0), while Destrehan goes to Marrero to face Higgins (9-2).
Another 2A game of note is St. James (8-3) at Loyola Prep (8-4) of Shreveport. St. James, the No. 3 Class 2A seed, was the state runner-up to Curtis last year.
Class 3A Notre Dame-Crowley (11-0) and 4A Eunice (11-1) help lead the Acadiana contingent preparing for quarterfinals.
Notre Dame, the No. 1 seed in Class 3A, travels to Monroe to take on Richwood (9-3), while Cecilia (9-2) hosts No. 2 seed Westlake (10-0), last year’s state runner-up in other Class 3A games.
Eunice, a No. 4 seed and the No. 1-ranked team in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A poll, travels to Belle Chasse (9-1).
Meanwhile, Northside-Lafayette (10-1) hosts Salmen (9-2), while Breaux Bridge (9-2) hosts Archbishop Shaw in other 4A quarterfinals.
Lutcher defeated Amite, 20-19, in the semifinals in 2003 en route to a Class 3A state title.
