CPS wraps up South 2A title

GALLMAN, Miss.  — Jeff Martrain and Gage Wilkinson helped Central Private claim the Mississippi Private School Association’s South Class 2A title with a 7-5 road win over Copiah Academy on Wednesday.

With the victory, the Rebels advance to the MPSA 2A title series next week against either Kirk Academy or Marshall Academy.

Martrain finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and two runs batted in for CPS (30-2).  Wilkinson struck out three in 11/3 innings of relief to pick up the save for the winners.

Taylor Young was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Central Private, while starting pitcher Thomas Bourgeois (7-1) picked up his seventh win.

Losing pitcher Matthew Wright (3-3) was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for Copiah (17-13).
