Since the turn of the century, LSU’s football team has played eight games in Georgia. It has won six of them, including last year’s Chick-fil-A Bowl triumph.
Yes, the Tigers know how to score in the Peachtree State.
They score recruits there, too.
The next Georgia prospect to jump aboard could be Storm Johnson, a Loganville High running back. Johnson said he spoke to Larry Porter earlier this week and informed the LSU assistant head coach he plans to be a Tiger.
“I consider myself a commitment,” Johnson said.
Commitments from Georgia have been coming in bunches.
Brandon Worle, a fullback from LaGrange, gave LSU his word in March. Cameron Fordham, a tight end from Duluth, followed suit last month.
In the winter, athlete Drayton Calhoun and linebacker Kevin Minter — from Clarkston and Suwanee, respectively — signed with the Tigers, adding to an LSU roster that enters the 2009 season with seven Georgia players.
Johnson, who has yet to speak with LSU coach Les Miles about his commitment, would be the third Georgia prospect in the 2010 class.
A 6-foot-1, 215-pounder, Johnson transferred to Loganville from nearby Buford High after his junior season. He carries offers from Florida, Florida State, Tennessee and several others.
“If you’ve seen his highlight video,” Loganville coach Eric Godfrey said, “you understand why he’s a major recruit.”
At Buford, Johnson helped the Wolves post back-to-back 15-0 seasons, with two Class 2A championships. Splitting carries with Air Force signee Cody Getz as a junior, Johnson carried 165 times for 1,300 yards.
He also returned two kicks for scores.
