The LSU-Appalachian State football game is now scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, LSU and governor’s office officials decided today.

The game will be carried by ESPN Classic (Cox Cable ch. 245), the Southeastern Conference announced today. The game will also be available on ESPN’s online platform, ESPN360.

The game is being moved up from 4 p.m. because of safety concerns from potential evacuations from both the New Orleans and southwestern Louisiana areas, said LSU System spokesman Charles Zewe.

There will be no pregame activities, he said.

The change in time from 4 p.m. on ESPN to 10 a.m. on ESPN Classic triggered questions about availability on Cox cable, which serves thousands of subscribers in the Baton Rouge and Lafayette areas.

ESPN Classic is aired on Cox channel 245 in Baton Rouge, which is in the system's all-digital channel package.

ESPN Classic is offered on channel 34 in EATEL's basic package.

"Under our agreement with ESPN, we cannot move that channel," Cox Communications-Baton Rouge spokesman Will Hinson said.

Hinson said the agreement precludes Cox from moving the LSU-Appalachian State game to a cable channel in a more popular tier of offered stations.

Hinson said Cox subscribers with a digital-receiver box can call the company and subscribe to the digital tier package to-day.

Hinson said Cox executives decided the Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, Gonzales and Lafayette offices would remain open Friday evening and re-open at 8 a.m.Saturday.

"Anyone who wants to come in to get the DCT (digital) box will be able to get it Saturday morning and be able to hook it up by game time," Hinson said.

ESPN announced Friday the game can also be viewed on its Web site - ESPN360.com.
