John Brady was fired in the middle of his 11th season as LSU's head basketball coach and just two seasons after the Tigers' latest Final Four appearance.
LSU fires Brady
The news that Tiger head coach John Brady would not be back was not as shocking as the timing of the decision. Rather than waiting until the end of the season, LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman decided to pull the trigger three weeks early.
I think it is GREAT that Brady is gone especially after what he said about the football team. I also think it is a really bad idea to have him coach Saturday. I do not think it will be a send-off with well wishes from the crowd. It will be more of a good riddance type of thing that has a potential to both be ugly and embarrassing in front of a national TV audience. If Brady is done, he should be done. Period.

Mike, forgive my ignorance but what did Brady say about the football team? I am out of the loop on that one.
Thanks

"Our football team, they don't want to play any tough preseason games. You get a schedule you can win, get yourself about 12 or 13 wins early on, go through your league and win some games, then you'll get where you want to go regardless of who you've played....I'm preferring to create some activity where you shoot out of the game at 12-0, maybe play one tough game, win it, then you're off and running, and everybody's talking about how good your team is." - John Brady, from Feb. 5, 2008 Memphis Commercial Appeal - http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/feb/05/tough-non-league-games-dont-hurt/

Brady made it a point to talk about "pre-season" (in conference) games where the basketball team schedules schools like Okla St. and Villanova, when football schedules lower tier teams at the start of the season. He had the guts to talk trash about a football team coming off a national championship.....
Was the last straw.

Wow, maybe we'll be able to recruit and keep talent in school so we can go farther than one or two deep on the bench!

ESPN made a point of saying that Bobby Knight resigned but did not retire. He is available, he knows Louisiana high school basketball talent, he keeps kids in school and they graduate.

Ladies and gentlemen,
It saddens me to read and hear comments such as “it’s about time” and “after what he said about the football team.” Our culture is too focused on winning rather than an appreciation for the positive and victory achieved through personal relationships with the players/individuals. Brady’s players haven’t uttered distasteful words towards him but words of support. As LSU’s coach Brady revived a once struggling basketball program that was under the once praised Dale Brown. More important than wins and loses is the education players receive and life lessons learned through the character their coach has exhibited while at LSU. There is more to our lives than sports, winning and losing. We all have the freedom to voice our thoughts and these are mine. What an impact we could make if our passion for the LORD Jesus Christ would be as strong as our commitment to Sports!

It's not just about wins and losses... he only graduated 13 players his entire tenure. Utterly deplorable. The players never developed well under him. He doesn't know X's and O's of basketball. He should have been fired 4 or 5 years ago. It's way past time he left LSU. LSU needs to get a REAL basketball coach this time.

The point of College is education. If Brady in his 11 year tenure has only graduated 13 players then there is more of a problem than his lack of winning and it is ABOUT TIME! To post "Our culture is too focused on winning rather than an appreciation for the positive and victory achieved through personal relationships with the players/individuals" when he hasn't served the players well by emphasizing their education along with their athletic ability is ludacris! Let's get a coach who realizes the majority of his players will probably not go pro and will need their Bachelor Degrees as a foundation for real life.

Bobby Knight coming to LSU is almost as laughable as Steve Spurrier coming here. LSU fans have always hated Knight as they hate Spurrier. Why would Knight or anyone else for that matter go to place where they are hated? LSU will hire a young assistant who will hopefully be able to fill the PMAC and start graduating players

He's had a rocky tenure because of the Lester Earl sanctions. However, he couldn't bring back the magic or the fans . He waisted an opportunity to capitalize on the last final 4 season. Attending games this and last season were as exciting as attending a funeral .LSU is loosing too much money by having more empty seats than fans at games. IT'S TIME TO MAKE A SABAN-LIKE HIRE!
