OMAHA, Neb. -- Jared Bradford has been in this situation before.
Bradford took the mound to replace Blake Martin on April 5 when LSU defeated Alabama 3-0 in a game suspended by rain the night before. The score was 0-0 when that Friday night game was halted, and the Tigers won it the next day after Bradford took over.
That was the day of the spring football "game" in Tiger Stadium. Alabama and LSU played a night game, the second game of the series, so there were parts of two baseball games and a football scrimmage that day on either side of Nicholson Drive.
The situation today is a little different for Bradford. Martin left him in a better situation against Alabama, pitching well on that Friday before the rain came. There was no deficit to overcome.
But as you saw if you looked at my 3:30 p.m. post, LSU has a good track record in overcoming deficits of 2-0 or larger after the top of the first inning.
Bradford was the starting pitcher Tuesday against Rice and had 10 strikeouts before turning it over to Paul Bertuccini, who turned it over to Louis Coleman. LSU rallied for a 6-5 victory with four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Maybe you heard something about that.
More in a bit.
