4:09 p.m. -- UNO eliminates TSU

The University of New Orleans routed Texas Southern, 18-5, today in an elimination game of the Baton Rouge Regional at Alex Box Stadium.

The Privateers will play in another elimination game at 1 p.m. Sunday against the loser of tonight's LSU-Southern Mississippi contest.

UNO (43-20) took advantage of three TSU errors while banging out 16 hits. Johnny Giavotella went 3-for-3, scored four runs and drove in three for the Privateers.

Jim McGonigle was the winning pitcher for the Privateers, overcoming a shaky UNO defense that committed four errors. McGonigle gave up five runs -- two earned -- in seven innings.

Rashad Ford took the loss for Texas Southern (16-34), giving up seven runs -- six earned -- in four innings.
