LSU BASEBALL BLOG

2:30 p.m. -- It's 6-0

The home team added two runs in the fourth at Alex Box Stadium.

Matt Clark struck out swinging and was tagged out by the catcher after the ball touched dirt. D.J. LeMahieu made it to first base on an infield single, a ball hit deep in the hole. Jordan Bush made a nice stop, but he had no chance of getting LeMahieu even with a good throw. He rushed it, and it was off line, and LeMahieu was safe.

LeMahieu got to jog to second because of a balk, and Leon Landry smoked a two-hopper to first baseman Earnest Rhone, who handled it fine for an unassisted putout. LeMahieu went to third base.

Ryan Schimpf's single to right field scored LeMahieu for a 5-0 LSU lead.

Michael Hollander took a ball while Schimpf stole second base without a throw. A wild pitch put him at third base, and you just know Paul Mainieri is going to keep applying offensive pressure to produce more runs.

A delay for a mound visit gave TSU time to get some activity going in its bullpen for the first time in this game. It appeared the visiting Tigers wanted to see if there was a problem with starting pitcher Ehern Moreno, and he threw some practice pitches and said he was fine.

Hollander, with his 2-0 count, took a strike, fouled one off, then reached out and tapped one through the left side of the infield for an RBI single and a 6-0 lead. Jared Mitchell drove one harder through the same path on the next pitch to put runners on first and second with two outs for Derek Helenihi.

On a double-steal attempt, Mitchell was thrown out at second base, ending the inning with LSU leading 6-0.
