AUBURN, Ala. -- Leon Landry led off the seventh inning with a solo home run, giving LSU a 9-5 lead against Auburn.
After Ryan Schimpf reached on an error, Michael Hollander struck out. Schimpf was caught stealing -- picked off 1-3-6 -- for the second out. Jared Mitchell reached on a three-base error by left fielder Brian Fletcher, bringing up Blake Dean with two outs.
8:21 update: Georgia defeated Alabama 5-4, giving LSU the SEC West championship regardless of what happens in this game.
8:23 update: Dean walked, and so did Micah Gibbs, loading the bases. Derek Helenihi singled to drive in two more runs for an 11-5 LSU lead with two outs in the top of the seventh.
Matt Clark made the third out with a fly to center field. LSU had three runs on two hits and two errors, leaving two men on base.
Congratulations, SEC Western Division champions. Now LSU is playing to lock up the No. 2 record overall in the SEC, and with Vanderbilt losing to Florida, it looks like LSU is in good shape there too.
LSU is also the No. 2 seed for the SEC tournament. Georgia, the SEC champion, is the No. 1 seed. LSU will play the 10 a.m. game Wednesday in Hoover, Ala., against the No. 7 seed (yet to be determined).
