AUBURN, Ala. -- LSU added to its lead in the top of the fifth inning at Plainsman Park to make it 8-5.
Matt Clark hit a one-out single. D.J. LeMahieu walked, and Leon Landry loaded the bases on a ground ball pitcher Evan Crawford couldn't field and maintain his balance to make a throw.
Ryan Schimpf hit a ball in the hole on the right side, and it glanced off the glove of first baseman Kevin Patterson and into shallow right-center field for a two-run single and 8-5 LSU lead.
Michael Hollander struck out for the second out. Jared Mitchell walked to load the bases.
Blake Dean made the third out on a fly to center field.
