LSU BASEBALL BLOG

8:53 p.m. -- It's 6-4

AUBURN, Ala. -- The trading of runs, which began its yet-unbroken streak in the top of the sixth inning, continued in the top of the eighth with LSU scoring a run for a 6-4 lead.

Blake Dean led off the inning with a double, then came out in favor of pinch runner Johnny Dishon. Auburn replaced left-handed starter Grant Dayton with right-hander Bryan Woodall.

Switch hitter Micah Gibbs batted left-handed for the first time tonight and struck out looking.

D.J. LeMahieu, who doubled in his previous two appearances, reached on an infield single on a high chopper deep in the hole at shortstop, putting runners on the corners.

Matt Clark drove in Dishon with a single to right-center, giving LSU a 6-4 lead. Chris McGhee pinch ran for Clark at first base.

Sean Ochinko struck out swinging, and Woodall had to jump to avoid being hit by the bat, which slipped from Ochinko's hands and sailed low across the mound and to the back of the infield.

With a fan yelling "Hey, Schimpf, I wouldn't crowd the plate if I were you," Ryan Schimpf came to bat and grounded out to second base.
