LSU BASEBALL BLOG

8:03 p.m. -- It's 11-0

LSU is on a roll. After scoring four runs in the first inning, the Tigers scored seven runs in the second inning.

Michael Hollander led off with a single to right-center field. Jared Mitchell just missed sending a ball down the right-field line on a hit-and-run, then did better by blasting a two-run homer between the scoreboard and the Intimidator in right field.

That gave LSU a 6-0 lead and gave Mitchell five home runs, four in his last six SEC starts.

Blake Dean struck out on a called third strike for the first out. Derek Helenihi made the second out on a pop-up to the second baseman in shallow right field, a play that had three-way collision written all over it until the last second.

Micah Gibbs hit a two-out single up the middle. Matt Clark then hit a two-run homer off the Intimidator for an 8-0 lead.

That prompted Mississippi State coach Ron Polk to pull starter Chad Crosswhite and replace him with left-hander Andy Wilson.

Leon Landry hit Wilson's first pitch up the middle for a single. Ryan Schimpf then hit a three-run home run into the left-center-field bleachers for an 11-0 lead.

Hollander's soft liner to first base ended the inning.

On the video board put in place for this weekend, they just showed highlights from LSU's championship victory against USC in the 1990 regional at The Box.
