The National Weather Service forecast for Baton Rouge for the three-game weekend series between LSU and Mississippi State:
Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. South wind between 5 and 10 mph.
Tonight: Patchy fog after 4 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind between 5 and 10 mph becoming calm.
Saturday: Patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 90. Calm wind becoming south between 5 and 10 mph.
Saturday night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind between 5 and 10 mph.
Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. West wind around 10 mph becoming north.
Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 59.
I don't have stats to back this up, but it sure seems like rain affects Ron Polk and Mississippi State more than any other SEC coach and team. Let's hope Polk's final game at The Box -- what could be LSU's as well -- is not delayed or otherwise disrupted.
The Bulldogs had a rainout in their series with Alabama, but the teams were able to get all three games in that weekend. This weekend would not be a good time for State to have its first SEC game of the season wiped out by rain.
Thirty percent? The Weather Channel says 40. We'll see.
